Last week I took the pledge in Jaime Oliver's cookbook, Jamie's Food Revolution, to teach at least one recipe from each chapter of the book to friends and family in hopes that you too will share and teach them to your friends and family. Last week I did the Vegetable Jalfrezi recipe from the Easy Curries chapter.  This week I chose the Chicken and Leek Stroganoff from the Twenty Minute Meals chapter for a couple of reasons. First, leeks mean Springtime to me and like most of us on the East coast, I am craving Spring.  Second, we have leeks and crimini mushrooms in the box this week...both of which are called for in the recipe.

Did you all love those Meyer lemons that were in last week's box as much as I did? I thought they were wow, zing, zam, "they getcha right back here", oh so good!  They provided all the inspiration I needed to complete my self-prescribed homework of finally using my ice cream maker to make the Meyer Lemon Cardamom Ice Cream recipe from the LA Times. Ever since I told you I would make it and blog about it, I was fantasizing about how good it was going to be.

You may have heard a couple weeks ago that Jaime Oliver won the TED prize for his advocacy of children's health, nutrition, food knowledge with school lunches being the cornerstone of his mission. Jaime really walks the walk and has been doing great things to influence the way we cook and eat in both the UK and the US for some time now. In his book, Jaime's Food Revolution, Jaime asks you to take a pledge to learn a recipe from each chapter of the book and teach the recipes to two or more friends or family, on the condition that they do the same. I took my pledge (there it is, signed by me on page 15 of my book) and here I am to teach the recipes with some pictures and tidbits...

Last week I was lucky enough to be able to go on a great getaway to Mexico with three of my best gal pals. Beautiful weather, gorgeous turquoise water soft warm breezes and yoga twice a day had us in ultra relaxation mode. We had lots of time to catch up on our reading..., three of us with our old fashioned "books" and Mariah with her Kindle.  "Listen to this", she said as she read to us from a "book" she was reading called Born to Run by Christopher McDougal who set off to find a tribe of the world's greatest distance runners and learn their secrets.

This brown text is taken directly from the bo...

Check out these graphic comparisons of global co2 emissions.  Great for folks like me who learn much easier with visual representation.

Hello Purple-top Turnips... You're so pretty with that purple blush on you.  Now,  what do I do with you?

Here are a couple of ideas:

Turnip Mash with Crispy Bacon

After dicing, boiling and mashing them through a ricer and seasoning the turnips, dry-fry up some diced, lean smoked bacon and when crisp, sprinkle over the mashed turnips and drizzle some fruity olive oil over the top.

How about this scrumptious, simple soup

Italian Turnip and Rice Soup

2 Tablespoons butter

1 Tablespoon olive oil

1 pound of turnips peeled and cut into a 1/2-inch dice

3 pints of chicken or vegetable stock

1/2 cup of rice, arborio if you have it ...

Hi  Lisa and Zeke,

Attached are some pictures of soups I have made recently using things you guys sent to me.   A few weeks back I had friends over for the LSU v. Florida gators game and made vegan Butternut Squash Soup with Roasted Red Pepper Puree along with Shrimp and Corn Soup.  It was a hit! Last night I made a Fall Vegetable Soup with fresh Apple Chicken Sausage using butternut squash, onion, radish, carrots, sweet potatoes, and an apple.  Here's the recipe:
