Come Hither, Kombucha!
OK, folks, if you haven’t tried kombucha (a lightly fermented sweet tea that’s been brewed for centuries in Asia and Eastern Europe), you’re in for a treat. This drink is so good -- and good for you -- that you’ll soon find yourself chug-a-lugging daily. Sweetened only with honey, the Capital Kombucha that we carry is very low in carbs so throw out any notions that “sweet tea” is something you get at Bojangles and translates to 100 grams of processed fructose that will go straight to your gut. That, it is not. In fact, this is a drink specifically for your gut. It’s chock full of probiotics -- good bacteria -- that help keep all your body’s natural flora healthy and ready to rock.
Some argue that keeping our intestinal flora regulated is one of the most important things we can possibly do for our health. Many studies and findings have shown that our gut lining is almost like a second brain. The health of your intestines can be the root of keeping all sorts of ailments at bay -- cancer, arthritis, hyperactivity, depression, lupus, and pretty much every single thing that could possibly go wrong with you. There are even theories that autism spectrum disorders can be cured through the gut. My thinking in this is -- why NOT make this a focus? It certainly can’t hurt.
Bottom line, fermented food is pretty awesome. Things like yogurt, kefir, kombucha, kimchi, pickles, krauts, and...wait for it: beer and wine!! -- all keep you in tip-top form. Tastes good -- good for you. Win + win = BIG win.

Now, I wanted to end this post with a recipe for a kombucha cocktail because I’ve saved the best news for last. Drinking kombucha is a fantastic hangover cure. It’s a natural detoxifier, so if you drink it as you consume alcohol -- like this easy-peasy mixed drink I made -- it will works as the antidote to alcohol. How cool is that?
Why someone didn’t tell me about this when I was in my 20s, I don’t know.
For this drink I simply mixed a hefty shot of vodka into a glass of the Capital Kombucha’s mint lime beverage, added ice and a twist of lemon. I guess I should have added a twist of lime, but I was too excited to drink it down. The verdict? Yum. How’s that for a happy Friday?
