Thought you might be curious (like Holly's goats) to take a peep into our days from time to time, so we started a little series called "Scenes from A Day".  You are all such a big part of what we do and why we do it, so come on in to our days, have a look around and see what we're creating together!

Today I headed to Lancaster, Pennsylvannia for a visit with a couple of our farmers and food folks. I find it so facinating how the pace of my visits matches the farming season.  Here on the last day of January, it was downright tranquil. I started the morning at Lancaster's Central Market.  Have you ever been to the oldest continually-operated farmer's market in the United States?  It's a beautiful old building in the center of town filled with local vendors with delicious offerings. I grabbed a big cup of coffee and headed out for a walk around.  Here are a few of my favorite things  about Lancaster:

Downtown Lancaster is an historic gem with a vibrant, artistic vibe. I never have enough time to roam around town and check out all of the galleries, shops and cafes, but there is so much to see on the streets! Beautiful murals like this one above polka dot the walls round town.

If you appreciate historic architecture and design, you'll get an eyeful in this city. Lancaster was part of the 1681 Penn's Woods Charter of William Penn, and was laid out by James Hamilton in 1734 making it the oldest inland town in America.  Isn't this an amazing iron fence? These corn stalks are topped with iron tassles. Can you imagine the work and craftsmanship that went into this? 

The clip clop of horse hooves pulling Amish carriages down the road seemed perfectly in sync with this this day. After meeting up with Gretchen from Christina Maser Pantry (who's jams and blueberry pancake mix we all  adore) and then a quick hello to the folks at Expressly Local who support many of the local producers that we do,  I headed out of center city to the softly rolling hills outside of town.
