Posts in This Week's New and Noteworthy
Now that I'm popping my head out to say hello, I find I have all sorts of things to tell you about!
I had a wonderful couple of days last week going on farm visits to some of the Amish farms we've been working with for the last 17 years. It is always an incredibly humbling experience to see the results of hard work and simple living. The picture above is from Daniel Byler's farm. It is a slice of heaven on earth.
We're back from our holiday trip and I must say it's great to be home!!! It was wonderful family time and we had a lot of fun (although all of us agree that we're not "Disney People") just being together without the distractions of everyday life. Zeke and I give a huge THANK YOU to our crew for doing a great job of handling everything so well while we were away. That is the first time that Zeke and I have both been away from Washington's Green Grocer for more then a couple days since the first day we started our business!
As I write this, I'm sitting in Forsyth Park in Savannah, Georgia. A couple less cherubs with water trumpets and this could be Dupont Circle right?! I love Savannah. It's a beautiful city with a great art scene thanks to Savannah College or Art and Design (SCAD), where Zeke and I are secretly hoping one of the kids might want to go!
This is the time of year when I do farm visits, and then again later in the summer when all of the farmer's are in the steady rhythm of the season and my visit won't interrupt the steady flow. It really is one of my favorite parts of what I do. I love to meet with the good people that work so hard and have dedicated themselves not only to bringing healthy food to all of us, but also to furthering sustainable farming practices.
We're Springing with Spring! Loving the showers, flowers and watching the fields turn from brown to green. And the best part of it all...the arrival of the first tender edibles! Have a great week everyone and Happy Spring!

I came across this old truck last week on a walk with our dog, Loki. This old girl has put in her time on the farm where she toiled and now sits growing a skirt of ivy. She has a new job of providing shelter from the winter weather for the birds and field mice and in the summer, I imagine the cat that Loki has his eyes locked on will sun on her rusty hood.
