Meet Stacey Over Cocktails
It's actually completely perfect that our newest voice here at Washington's Green Grocer picked this gorgeous cocktail to be her first entry, because that's what it's like to hang around Stacey. She's the funny, always able to put a smile on your face friend that puts even your worst days into hilarious perspective. And here you get to have cocktails with Stacey on your very first meeting. Aside from her great wit, she's a damn good cook and we are thrilled to have her blogging for us. Stacey is a columnist for Washington Life Magazine as well as the creator of Naked Thanks , a saucy blog project (completed on Thanksgiving 2011) with a hefty dose of irreverence where "Two American girls from the "me" generation, write 365 bare-boned tell-all thank yous in an attempt to become more appreciative human beings." It's the perfect thing to peruse while sipping your Greyhound or if you just really need a good belly laugh.
So without further ado, everyone this is Stacey. Stacey this is everyone!
ROSEMARY SUGAR GREYHOUND
Maybe it's the unseasonably warm weather, (Hello, 62 degrees in February!) but lately I've been craving all the yummy fruits and veggies summer brings. I'm dreaming of warm peach cobbler and sweet buttered corn on the cob, but since there's still several more months to go before I can dish up some strawberry shortcake and bask in the glory of a ripe tomato sandwich, I decided to make due with a zesty citrus cocktail to get me in the mindset of summer.
The Greyhound is a classic drink. Something about tangy grapefruit with a good, smooth vodka just makes my mouth water. It's cool and refreshing -- not to mention the fact that grapefruits are thought to help trigger fat loss. Think of it as exercise in a glass. I do. Certainly more fun than sit-ups!
I got the inspiration for this concoction over at Family Style Food. She whips up a mean looking Italian Greyhound with Rosemary Sugar, so I decided to give it a go with a couple of the grapefruits from this week's Washington's Green Grocer box. To assemble approximately two weight loss tonics/summery sippers:
Rim glasses with rosemary sugar (made by throwing a few sprigs of fresh rosemary and cup of sugar into the spice grinder or mini food processor). Combine juice of two or three grapefruits (I love my $18 dollar Black & Decker Citrus Mate for this) and pour in a hefty bit of quality vodka. My personal faves are Ketel One or Grey Goose. Garnish with lemon or an extra rosemary sprig. Enjoy.
After a couple of these, you'll forget it's still technically winter...
