This mill site in Annville, PA, has been in operation since about 1740 making it the oldest of its kind in the United States. It's now owned and operated by Dave Poorbaugh who produces Daisy Organic Flours. Daisy Flour is certified 100% organic and kosher and is not bleached, bromated or enriched.
The flours are milled using the old fashion flouring process on century old roller mills. The slow flouring process and lower operating temperatures retain many naturally occurring nutrients and starches that are lost to the higher temperatures of modern processing equipment.
Many of our customers that have been looking for a high quality European-style baking flour tell us that the Daisy flours are exactly what they wanted! Daisy grew and harvested Colonial heritage wheat varieties (read this article from Debbie Koenig for the Washington Post to learn more) and were all set to make flour with them when the mill suffered tremendous damage from hurricane Irene and they lost almost all of the heritage grain. They do have intentions of trying again, and we will make them available.
