Open Eyes Press
Open Eyes Press is a one-woman screen printing shop run by Baltimore-based artist Rachael Kondylas. She uses her fine art background and love of pop culture to create fun, modern textiles and prints for the home.
All products are printed in her in-home studio, which houses a darkroom, printing press, and lots of tables for drying. Each piece is printed, ironed, and folded by hand before heading out to a show or shop- lots of love goes into the process from start to finish!
Rachael has exhibited at Artscape, Crafty Bastards, Pile of Craft, and many other regional art markets. She recently became a member of the Charm City Craft Mafia, a Baltimore-based artisan collective that helps promote and support independent makers.
In Rachael's words:
"I've been an entrepreneur since I was a kid- I started a neighborhood dog washing business when I was 10 (used my mom's fax machine to make flyers!), and then had a handmade jewelry business through high school. After graduating from college with a degree in Fine Art, I went looking for a job that would support me and allow me to use my creative talents. I spent several years working in all kinds of art-related fields, but nothing I did gave me the sense of fulfillment or creative freedom I wanted. Around 2009, I was exhausted and ready for a change- my family encouraged me to start a business doing what I loved, and the rest is history!"
