I'm a little surprised at how exited I am to share this with you, but I guess there is no holding back the pride and joy of an organizing nerd. Now don't get me wrong, most days you would walk into my kitchen (and office) and "organized" would definitely not be the word that pops into your head. But alas, I love the idea of being organized and spend a significant amount of time daydreaming of the day that I can find everything in my pantry without having to remove half of the items first.
This is a little project that I just completed in our mudroom. I had floor to ceiling shelves put in an otherwise useless indentation in the room. The shelves are for holding all of the goods that I pickle, preserve, can and put by. My clever little twist that I'm so excited about is painting the front face of each shelf with chalkboard paint so I can write what it is that is occupying the space at the time. Believe me, when you have strawberry jam, sitting next to rhubarb strawberry jam, it's tough to tell the difference if you aren't in the habit of labeling as you go (which I am not). When I've used something up, I erase what was there and write in the new shelf resident. I'm thinking it's going to work out beautifully and it looks pretty nifty too. Now, it's off to fill up my shelves!
